Mortal Engines is a post-apocalyptic adventure movie and it is directed by Christian Rivers. The screenplay is written by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Peter Jackson and it is based on a novel written by Philip Reeve. This film is an American–New Zealand co-production and stars Hera Hilmar, Robert Sheehan, Hugo Weaving, Jihae, Ronan Raftery, Leila George, Patrick Malahide, and Stephen Lang.
The right for the book was purchased in 2009 and the film was officially announced in 2016. Filming for this movie took place in New Zealand. The film was premiered in London and theatrically released on December 6, 2018, in the United States. The film mostly received negative reviews mostly for the lacking personality and the direction from the critics but it was praised for the visual effects.
Mortal Engine was a big box office bomb and against the production budget of at least $100 million, it grossed over $83 million worldwide. This film holds an approval rating of 27% and an average rating of 4.9/10 on the Rotten Tomatoes website and on Metacritic, it was scored 44oit of 100.
The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world and in this world where cities consume each other, a young woman is the only one who can stop this conspiracy. She joins forces and teams up with another woman she meets in London to stop a predator city on wheels that is devouring everything.
