Jerry Bruckheimer is the producer of this fantasy franchise named Pirates of the Caribean that includes five films. This series of films are directed by different directors such as Gore Verbinski directing the first and the third films, Rob Marshall directing the fourth film and Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg directing the fifth film in this franchise.

The screenplays of each film are also written by different writers. Pirates of the Caribean follow the stories and adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow played by Johny Deep. The second installment Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest was released on July 7, 2006. The film grossed over $1 billion worldwide and became the highest-grossing film sequel and also the highest-grossing film of the year. This film was nominated for different awards and could receive Academy Awards at different categories. Based on the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes it receives an average rating of 5.95/10.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is the third film in this series. It was released on May 25, 2007. And received mixed reviews after being released. The performances, action sequence and the humor were praised but the plot and the running time was criticized by the critics. Grossing over $960 million in total in was the highest-grossing of the year. This film holds an approval rating of 44%, with an average rating of 5.4/10 on Rotten Tomatoes.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is the fourth film in the franchise and it was released in 2007. This film received an approval rating of 33%, with an average rating of 5/10 on the Rotten Tomatoes website and grossed $1.045 billion worldwide. The fifth and the last installment in this series is Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales which was released in 2017.

This film received generally mixed reviews and grossed $794 million worldwide. The bloated narrative was criticized by the critics. It holds an approval rating of 29% and an average rating of 4.67/10 on Rotten Tomatoes. This franchise if the 14th highest-grossing franchise of all time. Each succeeding film in this series has experienced declining critical favor.
