About Popular Science
The magazine was founded in 1872 by Edward L. Youmans. The topics covered in this journal are science and technology.
Modern Publishing Company got the name of Science Popular Monthly. The company bought Electrician and Mechanic in 1914, and over the next two years united several journals into one scientific journal for the general public. The magazine has experienced a series of changes: before publishers bought the monthly name Popular Science, it was Modern Electrics and Mechanics, Popular Electricity and Modern Mechanics, Modern Mechanics, and finally World’s Advance. October 1915 was published as the World Science and Progress Monthly.
In January 2016, public knowledge changed to a two-month publication after 144 months of the monthly publication. In April 2016, it was announced that editor-in-chief Cliff Ransom would leave the magazine.
In August 2016, Joe Brown was named the new editor of Science. In September 2018, it was announced that Popular Science would become a quarterly publication.
