God of War is an action-adventure video game franchise. This mythology-based franchise is created by David Jaffe at Sony’s Santa Monica Studio. This series was debuted in 2005 in the PS2 video game console. Consisting of eight games in the different platform, this game became a flagship title for PlayStation. The story is about a warrior who is tricked to kill his family by Ares, the Greek God of war.

Now this warrior is serving other Gods of the Olympian and is trying to get rid of the nightmares. Years later, he takes on a journey with a young boy named Atreus in order to fulfill a promise to the boy’s recently deceased mother.

All the main entries are developed by Santa Monica and all the game are published by the Sony Interactive Entertainment except the mobile phone installment that was published by Sony Pictures Digital. The main trilogy consists of God of War, the first, the second and the third which are released in 2005, 2007 and 2010.

The first two games are released for PlayStation 2 and the third one is released for PlayStation 3. Ascension is a prequel to the other games and it was released in 2013 for PlayStation 3. All the games in this franchise are praised and known to be the best action games of all time. This franchise has sold over 32 million copies around the world and it has expanded into other media such as comic books and novels.
