The focus of the game is on the character of Edith Finch. Finch has a perceived curse and this curse causes the death of one member of each generation. Her family home is on the coast of the state of Washington and she is returned there. She is exploring the house to find about her mother’s death. She learns about her relatives and their death. She is the narrator of his family’s history in this game.

The player controls this character and explores the house. The player encounters a series of memorials to the deceased relatives. The flashbacks in the game are different from each other in genre and visuals and style.
